Nottingham Business School

Nottingham Business School is responsible for delivering Business and Management educational services within Nottingham Trent University. Our national and international networks, coupled with our high academic standards, ensure that in choosing us as a place to study, you are benefitting from the knowledge, experience and resources of many leaders in the field of business, industry and research.

Nottingham Business School (NBS) is proud to have achieved EQUIS accreditation – an international benchmark of excellence for business schools. Fewer than 1% of business schools worldwide have both EQUIS and AACSB accreditation, confirming the rigorous and innovative standards of our teaching and research, and the balance we consistently strike between academic quality and professional relevance. Reflecting our commitment to a professionally focused, hands-on business education – individually tailored to the needs, interests and ambitions of our students – these accreditations consolidate NBS' reputation for excellence, both at home and abroad. We're ranked 18th / 123 for Business in The Guardian University Guide 2019 and 28th / 121 for Business in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019.

Undertaking an MPhil or PhD
Nottingham Trent University offers opportunities to study for an MPhil or PhD by research in all its academic schools. Supervision is available by full-time or part-time study, and can sometimes be provided by distance learning.

We have seen a rapid expansion of research activity in recent years, and aim to maintain that progress. Our research strategy places a particular focus on application. This is reflected in being designated as a Centre of Research Excellence by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

The University's Graduate School is certified to be compliant with Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) training guidelines in Law.

Research is undertaken across a range of disciplines. We would welcome applications from students in most areas of business or economics, but in particular the areas below where specialist supervision may be available:

  • Applied Economics & Policy
  • Employment & Work
  • Learning & Knowledge Management
  • Technology Management, Entrepreneurship & Innovation
  • Marketing and Consumer Services
  • Public Sector Management
