Renowned for being one of the world’s premier centres for teaching and research in Real Estate and Planning, and for having the largest Real Estate department in the UK, our research interests span all major areas of real estate and land use. Our aim is to provide you with a first-class environment, conducive to the production of the highest quality research.
We offer PhD opportunities in a wide range of research areas in real estate and planning.
The programme emphasises:
• Formal research training (PhD/Masters level courses in year 1)
• Flexibility to meet individual needs
• Student-staff interaction
• Timely completion of the degree
As part of your personal development, you will be encouraged to engage in teaching (formal training also provided), research activities, conferences and events within the Business School and around the world.
Research Areas
Within Real Estate and Planning we work in several research areas that you can access through our webpage:
• Environment, sustainability, and participation
• Housing economics and finance
• Real estate investment and finance
• Valuation, leasing and market practice.
As this is not an exhaustive and detailed list of the broad spectrum of topics our faculty members are currently working on, we suggest you access individual academic web profiles to align your interest and identify your fit within the departmental research agenda.
Entry Requirements
You should normally have obtained a Masters degree at distinction or merit level in a relevant area from an internationally recognised university. Relevant research and/or industry experience may be considered for those with exceptional strengths.
As part of the application process, you will also be asked to submit a research proposal. Prior to your submission, you may wish to discuss your proposal with an individual faculty member working in the area. Please avoid contacting multiple faculty members.
