We offer our graduates expert support in professional preparation for a literary career and encourage them to begin to establish a publication record.

Creative Writing at Brunel University London is a leader in the field and rganises a hugely successful annual series of public writer readings by some of Britain's most exciting authors, which provide an opportunity for all students to debate and mingle with professional writers. Additionally, we annually publish anthologies of students' writing. 

English at Brunel has gone from strength to strength over the last decade to the point where it is now regularly ranked in the top ten English departments in the UK in the Guardian league tables.Our PhD in English will allow you to explore your research interest across a number of topics from modern and contemporary literature, Shakespeare, Renaissance studies, Victorian literature and culture, and world literature in English. From modernist and post-war women's writing to Caribbean and migrant fiction, at Brunel our research interests span a wide range of areas aimed at how understanding how literature has, can and does affect wider society.

The Journalism department is a dynamic, international and globally respected community of researchers. Members are at the forefront of research into subjects as diverse as: journalism and the implications for it of emergent digital and social technologies; migration and refugees; social justice and political communication; environmental and health communication. We also have specialist expertise on media and journalism in China and Hong Kong.
