Profile Description

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences invites applications to its PhD programme. The Faculty has research expertise spread across eight academic Schools, with contributions from over 500 academic staff and 530 PhD students.

We welcome applications in the following subject areas:

• Business and management
• Drama
• Economics and finance
• English
• Film studies
• History
• Human geography
• International relations
• Languages
• Law
• Linguistics
• Environmental Science
• Politics

A full list of research interests in each of these disciplines can be found on our PhD subject pages. Applicants are welcome in all the fields and disciplines for which we have academics to provide expert supervision. Applicants with interdisciplinary project ideas (for example, with history and geography) are also encouraged to apply.

Standard applications can be made online here by selecting the subject of choice. Before applying, you should make informal contact with a potential supervisor to establish whether we can provide you with expert supervision and to discuss funding opportunities. Candidates will normally be expected to have a good first degree and a Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
