 Funded PhD Programme (Students Worldwide)

About the Programme

We are seeking outstanding applicants to develop a doctoral research project in the field of Quantitative Social Sciences (QSS).

Developing and utilising numeric methods to attain greater knowledge and understanding of the social world is increasingly important to social scientific knowledge. Quantitative methods are used by researchers to observe situations or events that affect people & produce reliable data that can be clearly communicated through statistics and numbers.

There are four main types of QSS research: Descriptive, correlational, causal-comparative/quasi-experimental, and experimental Research. What all these approaches share is their concern with attempting to establish cause-effect relationships among the variables.

The benefits of quantitative social science research are that you get your hands on a larger sample, with a quantitative survey, a much broader study can be done – one which involves more people. The aim is to achieve greater objectivity and accuracy as there are far fewer variables involved with quantitative research.

QSS research is influential as it helps to determine government policy as well as how we interact with institutions and environments that influence our behaviour. For example, the legal system, social services, our neighbourhoods, schools and universities.
