About the Programme

Our research aligns with major national and international health challenges across an increasing life-course. It leads to greater innovation in the diagnosis, management, treatment and prevention of health conditions. Join our community of dedicated staff and work alongside more than 50 PhD students as you pursue your research interests and ambitions.

Our research is ranked 6th in the UK for research power in the Times Higher Education ranking of the latest REF results with over 92% (REF 2021).

PhD Health Sciences

As a PhD student in our Department, you'll have the flexibility to tailor your studies to achieve your research goals and will benefit from our in-depth bespoke research training programme which supports the development of essential subject specific and transferable skills for your future career.

You'll be welcomed as a valuable member of our scientific community and will be embedded into one of our specialist research groups. You'll also have access to all of our departmental facilities.

Alongside your studies you'll have access to a variety of personal development opportunities, to prepare you for your future. Our students often pursue careers in academia, or use the knowledge and research skills they gain in commercial research, business, finance and the public sector.

We're committed to undertaking research on current and emerging challenges in health and healthcare provision. Our work spans a range of academic disciplines including epidemiology, biostatistics, health economics, health policy, sociology and applied psychology, and clinical trials.
