About the Programme

TalTech School of Business and Governance, which belongs to Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) - the biggest university in Estonia, is the leading provider of economic education in Estonia.

TalTech's School of Business and Governance offers an excellent PhD programme called Business, Economics and Governance, which aims to provide extensive knowledge and research skills in the specializations Business, Economics and Governance (BEG) to individuals interested in pursuing a scholarly career in the BEG fields or seeking career advancement in fields requiring a PhD degree.

The overall purpose of the programme is to develop comprehensive research skills in social-science research in general and in the BEG fields in particular. Students will develop the abilities to carry out relevant and independent research that contributes to the advancement of the BEG fields in Estonia and Europe. Not only will academic and policy-relevant discussions of key societal topics be facilitated but also the development of social competences and skills as well as an ability to continuously adapt to an ever changing world. Furthermore, the research conducted within the PhD programme is also intended to actively contribute to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The 4-year PhD programme that is fully taught in English, offers a choice of three specialisations:

  1. Public policy and Innovation
  2. Business
  3. Economics and Finance

The doctoral students are guaranteed a full-time position in the supervisor's research group as an Early Stage Researcher. The Early Stage Researcher positions open for applications are listed here.

Who we look for

  • a master's degree in social sciences (preferably in one of the BEG specializations) or in other areas with additional proof of social science research skills;
  • a clear interest and own vision for independent research in the topic of the position;
  • excellent command of English;
  • strong and demonstrable writing and analytical skills;
  • capacity to work both as an independent person and as part of an international team;
  • capacity and willingness to provide assistance in organizational tasks relevant to the School of Business and Governance.

  1. an application;
  2. a curriculum vitae, incl. data on education and research and development activities;
  3. a copy of an education certificate and a diploma supplement;
  4. a copy of the passport, identity card or residence permit card:

  6. other documents required by the supervisor to determine eligibility of the applicant. Additional documents may be requested during the competition period.

NB! Applications to Early Stage Researcher positions are accepted only through the official application platform Glowbase. It is not possible to apply by e-mail. During one admission period you can only apply for one position.
