Apply now for fees-only PhD scholarships in applied health and social care research starting in 2016


The Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education is a partnership between Kingston University and St George's, University of London in south-west London. The Faculty combines the research expertise and resources of a modern university with those of an established medical school. We actively collaborate with public and patients, with public sector services, across our disciplines and through network organisations such as the Academic Health Science Network, South London and the Collaboration for Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRC) South London. We undertake research within the following themes:

• Health and social care issues for people with long terms conditions and their family
• Exercise and rehabilitation for health and well-being
• Innovation and inter-professional working in the health, social care and education workforce
• Public and patient engagement in research
• Education practice and education for the professions
• Children and families

We are pleased to offer up to 5 part-time MPhil/PhD fee only scholarships (UK/EU rate) starting spring / autumn 2016. The Faculty is seeking students who have a 2:1 or first class Bachelor's degree and/or Master's degree, who are intellectually curious and academically able, who want to conduct research in a vibrant research environment and who have the drive to complete their studies. We welcome applications for fees only scholarships in the following areas:

• Midwifery education and practice – Dr Jayne Marshall
• Radiographic practice and service development – Dr Cheryl Whiting
• Education and pedagogical research - Dr Ruth Wood
• Critical, theoretical and pedagogic methods in higher education – Dr Victoria Perselli
• Science education – Dr Mick Allen
• Implementation and improvement science in health services – Professor Annette Boaz
• Palliative care for people with learning disabilities – Dr Irene Tuffrey-Wjine
• Interprofessional working and patient safety - Professor Scott Reeves
• Primary care and community nursing workforce – Professor Vari Drennan

The fee-only scholarships will be allocated in a competitive round with interviews. Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they can financially support themselves over the period of the study.
