About the Programme

Two Funded PhD Studentships, Department of Computer Science, Royal Holloway, University of London, UK.

Starting date of scholarships: September 2021

The Department of Computer Science at Royal Holloway, University of London is offering two funded PhD Studentships of 3.5 years duration. You may apply to study any topic, but you need to contact and obtain the support of a potential supervisor in the department before you apply.

The department does internationally recognised research in Algorithms and Complexity,

Machine Learning, Intelligent Systems and AI, Software Language Engineering, Formal Methods, and

Type Theory.

The studentships are for three and a half years. The stipend will be at the UKRI rate (currently £17,609 per year), plus a Home/EU fee waiver. The Department also funds students to present their work at international conferences. Research students are expected to undertake demonstrating and teaching tasks for a limited number of hours so as not to interfere with their studies. They will be invited to take the Certificate in Teaching Skills offered by the University, which is a recognised teaching qualification.

Applicants are expected to have obtained a good degree in Computer Science or a cognate discipline. Please first submit a formal application to study; after that you must contact and obtain the support of a potential supervisor in the Department to be considered for the scholarship.

About Computer Science at Royal Holloway:

The Department is one of the UK's leading centres for research into Computer Science. In the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014), we ranked 11th in the UK for the quality of our research output, with over 32% of our publications recognised as world leading, and a further 55% internationally excellent. Theory that we develop leads to the design and building of novel practical computing systems, and their application in the real world. Research students enjoy a lively research culture and are fully involved in the research activities of the Department (and share their successes).

For further details of the Department of Computer Science see our web site http://www.rhul.ac.uk/computerscience. The positions are based in Egham, Surrey where the College is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London.
