Applications are invited for a PhD studentship (4 years) to research a topic related to the Digital Building Services Engineering work of the UCL Bartlett School of Construction & Project Management within The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment. This will be in the general area of digital facilities management, asset management, PFI management, artificial intelligence, costing and modelling tools relating to operational improvements at MoD Main Building and other similar environments. The UCL project team will provide guidance on the exact topic providing that an applicant can demonstrate original thinking and motivation to research in this subject area. The student will be supervised jointly by Professor Michael Pitt (UCL), and a member of the Skanska FS and/or Modus Services Ltd asset management team (industrial supervisor).

Research Topic
The student will be involved in assisting the Modus Services Ltd and Skanska teams with the development of some aspect of the management of the MoD Main Building PFI contract. The key research areas will be in digital services engineering in facilities management, advice to operations and the development of digital systems enabling more effective use of the built assets.
Sustainable Facilities and Asset Management with Modus Services Ltd based at Ministry of Defence Main Building London. (UK Passport holders only may apply)
Applications are invited for a PhD studentship (3 years) to research a topic related to the Sustainable Facilities and Asset Management work of the UCL Bartlett School of Construction & Project Management within The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment. This will be in the general area of sustainable facilities management, asset management, PFI management, costing and modelling tools relating to operational improvements at Main Building and other similar environments. The UCL project team will provide guidance on the exact topic providing that an applicant can demonstrate original thinking and motivation to research in this subject area.
Research Topic
The student will be involved in assisting the Modus Services Ltd team with the development of some aspect of the management of the MoD Main Building PFI contract. The key research areas will be in sustainability in facilities management, advice to operations and the development of sustainable solutions enabling more effective use of the built assets.
The student will be required to develop and submit a research proposal to the School as part of the application process and to commence the project in late 2019 or early 2020. It is a condition of the award that the student is able to satisfy UCL of the suitability/rigour of both the researcher (the student) and the project.
Both studentships will be based at the Ministry of Defence Main Building in London and will involve some day to day routine work to acquire essential industrial skills and knowledge. The studentship will be subject to regular performance review upon which continued funding will depend. The successful candidate will hold a first degree (minimum 2-1) in a built environment, finance, computing, engineering or an appropriate business related field as well as an appropriate Masters degree.
It is a requirement of these positions that the researcher is able to obtain and hold standard security clearance. Applications are therefore limited to UK Passport holders who have resided in the UK for a minimum of 5 years.
