About the Programme

The University of Bristol and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law are delighted to be able to offer a number of fully-funded Postgraduate Research Scholarships to candidates demonstrating exceptional research potential. We actively encourage applications from all parts of the world, and from under-represented and non-traditional groups, both from within and outside of the UK. All applications, whether requiring home or overseas fees, will receive equal consideration. Applications are invited for any PhD programme offered by the Faculty’s six Schools.

Scholarships are available for up to four years (full-time) or eight years (part-time), subject to satisfactory annual progress.

Some of the scholarships available to applicants of postgraduate research programmes in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law include:

  1. Bristol Postgraduate Research Scholarships
  2. Bristol Postgraduate Research Scholarships for UK-domiciled, Home fee applicants of Black African, Black Caribbean or other Black or mixed Black heritage
  3. Fully Faculty-funded inter-/ cross-disciplinary PhD Scholarships

Unless otherwise stated, PhD Scholarships will include tuition fees in line with UKRI fee, and a maintenance grant (stipend). The stipend rates for 2024-25 are at least £18,622 for four years (full-time) or eight years pro rata (part-time), depending on satisfactory progress. Each student will also have £2,000 per annum to be spent on associated research costs.
