This project will be under the supervision of Dr. Oscar Mendez, who is a Robotics and Artificial Intelligence researcher at the Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing (CVSSP) and Dr. Belen Marti-Cardona, who is a researcher at the Centre for Environmental Health and Engineering. The project will investigate the use of Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision and Deep Learning to estimate soil properties for Precision Agriculture (PA). PA is the practice of using data and AI to aid in agriculture management and sustainability. Research will aim to deliver algorithms and/or prototypes which can use satellite and UAV technology to capture multi-spectral images and leverage this information to enable PA. You will be using and developing state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics and Computer Vision technology and joining a thriving research community with ongoing projects for Autonomous Vehicles, Robotics and AI.
This project is open to students worldwide, starting in July 2022. Later start dates may be possible.

All applicants should have (or expect to obtain) a first-class degree in a numerate discipline (mathematics, science or engineering) or MSc with Distinction (or 70% average) and a strong interest in pursuing research in this field. Additional experience which is relevant to the area of research is also advantageous.
English language requirements: IELTS 6.5 or above (or equivalent) with no sub-test of less than 6.
