This PhD project is offered in partnership between Loughborough University and Lufthansa German Airline. It offers exciting opportunities to:

Loughborough University and Lufthansa German Airline have agreed a joint PhD research project to investigate and analyse consumer search and buying behaviour using big data and novel analytical methods. A PhD studentship is being jointly sponsored and will be supervised by Professor Holland and Dr Argyris from Loughborough University, and Dr Alexander Prinz from Lufthansa. The student will be based at the University campus and the Lufthansa offices in Frankfurt, where the airline’s digital analytics and marketing teams are located. The international research collaboration aims to develop, apply and test theoretically rigorous frameworks based on real-world data, so that the results will have both theoretical and business impacts. The airline is keen to explore new and emerging techniques in decision theory and digital marketing strategy. The main outputs from the research will be a set of jointly authored conference and journal papers, business conference presentations and discussion white papers. The research fits within the University’s research excellence ‘CALIBRE’ framework, to develop thought leadership by tackling the research challenges of modelling and understanding consumer behaviour using big data.
We encourage applications from candidates with strong analytical abilities and confidence in using mathematical and statistical concepts and analytical software to solve business problems. Previous experience of computer programming will be beneficial but not essential.
