About the Project

The overarching aim of this work is to examine the post-exercise fatigue, muscle-damage and recovery responses from different exercise modalities in well-trained females. A secondary aim is to evaluate if the menstrual cycle phase has an effect on these responses. The proposed research will specifically focus on those females who are competing and training for a specific sport. Moreover, the data collected from this research will provide practitioners with new information on how to structure training in this population. The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of underpinning physiology and practical implications of fatigue and muscle-damage. Applicants should be comfortable in speaking to athletes about the menstrual cycle. Therefore, a background of working with female athletes is desirable, but not essential.
