An investigation into the use of predictive student analytics in Higher Education and the impact on student engagement and well-being

   Nottingham Business School

Applications accepted all year round  Self-Funded PhD Students Only

About the Project

Higher education institutions have embraced the use of learning analytics to better understand their students and to improve their learning journeys. However, these institutions also face challenges to enhance the support they provide to students along these learning journeys. Therefore, the sector is currently looking at how they can develop analytics that offer a more holistic level of support to the student body, by focusing not just on their learning but also on their wellbeing.

The aim of this research is to explore how key Higher Education institutions are currently using student analytics, what data sources are used, the role of ethics, legality and risk and to evaluate what these analytics are able to tell us.

A key part of the research will also be to explore how institutions use the insights gained to undertake appropriate interventions or ‘nudges’ and to understand when automated interventions are effective and when human intervention is required.
