An Operational Study of Domestic Energy Management in Western Australia

  • Full or part time

    Applications accepted all year round

    Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)

Project Description

There is widespread interest in the higher adoption of distributed energy systems. Local generation in the form of solar photovoltaic systems is now standard in the Western Australian suburban areas. Moreover, new power electronics based loads are also appearing in the system. Besides, demand-side management is considered to be the promising concept for future smart grid scenarios. To implement the demand-side management with efficacy, an effective domestic energy management system is sought. This project will address the number of obstacles related to domestic energy management in Western Australian suburban areas including financial investments. To generalise the developed ideas, real household data from various suburban areas will be used.

This will address the following:

1. Analyse the energy usage pattern for households with roof-top PV, battery energy storage, and electric vehicle and propose an optimum design guideline.
2. Design an effective domestic energy management system supportive to power grid through demand-side management.
3. Develop a financial investment model for such management system.
