Dr D Browne  No more applications being accepted  Funded PhD Project (UK Students Only)

About the Project

This project is concerned with the development of sustainable chemical methodology techniques for the generation and use of organometallic reagents under ball-milling conditions. The project, funded through a CASE award with Syngenta and EPSRC, will provide excellent training in practical organic chemistry, including the use and development of array approaches to ball-milling techniques.

The project is ideally suited to a synthetic chemist with an interest in the development of chemical methodologies using enabling reactor technologies. Applicants should have or expect to obtain a minimum 2:1 degree in chemistry. Previous experience of synthetic chemistry in a research environment would be beneficially but not essential. For examples of the Browne groups research in this area over the past three years see the following publications in the References section.

Main methods and techniques

The key methods will be Chemical synthesis, characterisation of organic compounds, Ball-milling.

Person specification

Applicants are expected to hold a first degree in chemistry (minimum 2.1). A Master’s project or equivalent in organic synthesis should prepare you well for this PhD. Other relevant skills will be taught during the project.

Applicants will also need to meet UCL MPhil/PhD entry and English Language requirements. See link for further details https://www.ucl.ac.uk/prospective-students/graduate/research-degrees/pharmacy-mphil-phd

How to apply

Applications must include CV, personal statement, and the contact details of two referees. Applications should be emailed to Ms Michelle Ward at [Email Address Removed]

Informal enquiries should be sent to Duncan at [Email Address Removed]

The deadline for applications is 26th February 2021 and interviews are scheduled to take place on Monday 8th March 2021.

Funding Notes

The student stipend will be paid at UCL normal rates (stipend rate for 2020/21 is £17,285 with additional increments in Years 2 and 3 of the studentship).
To be eligible for a full award, applications are invited from UK citizens.
