About the Project

Skills tests are commonly used by golf coaches as a supposed means to assess improvement and performance in their players. Such tests may involve the use of ball tracking equipment e.g. Trackman Combine or simpler methods such as Pelz's short-game handicap. There is limited literature in the area of skill testing in golf (e.g. Robertson, Burnett & Gupta, 2014) despite their common usage. This work will seek to examine the use of skill testing in Golf considering such questions as:

How reliable are the current testing practices used by professional golf coaches?
Do the results of skills tests bear any relation to on course tournament performance?

Get in touch with Dr Matt Bridge to discuss a proposal.
