Artificial Intelligence Based Approaches for Game Design and Development

  • Full or part time
  • Application Deadline
    Monday, May 20, 2019
  • Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)
    Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)

Project Description

The rules of computer games have restricted the non-player characters (NPCs)’s capability or cleverness/smart on responding the player’s actions (such as the speed and pattern of moving and the habits of using weapons), which makes game less competitive/exciting and may eventually get players losing their interest. This project aims to address the limitations using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, particularly with deep learning and reinforcement learning. The overall approaches include the development of AI-assisted game design tools which could automatically generate game levels (from textures to maps), the development of deep-learning based approaches to train an AI player to play an existing game against (or alongside) human players and the development of reinforcement-based methods to help build the game dynamically for players including the enhancement of NPC’s level of smart (or intelligence).
