Fully-funded ‘Anniversary’ PhD scholarship (4 of 6)

The Anniversary Scholarship offers an opportunity to undertake PhD research in the history of Liverpool John Moores University as it approaches its bicentenary in 2023. Successful applicants will also work with academic staff in a range of activities to support student learning and public engagement for up to 180 hours in each academic year.

Liverpool John Moores University is offering up to three full-time PhD Studentships to start in June 2019 or September 2019. This is one of six competition funded projects to choose from.

Project detail
Liverpool John Moores University has a long and rich history of art education. The university’s School of Art and Design can trace its history back to 1825 when the Mechanics’ School of Art opened, making it the oldest art school in the UK outside London. This PhD strand invites candidates to expand on the vibrant and growing field of home studies in the context of the history of the School of Art and Design by considering the role of institutional domesticity and ‘homemaking’ practices of staff and students in a) its building, b) rooms and c) Liverpool and its adjoining communities.

A 1,000 word statement outlining your proposed PhD research, and any relevant experience in the field. 2. Your CV (maximum two pages) indicating the names of two academic referees.

Value: Up to £20,353 per year
If you are awarded a fully-funded PhD scholarship, you could receive:
• annual fees: £4,300
• a contribution towards running costs: £1,500 per year
• an annual stipend: £14,553

The scheme is available to Home/European Union students with a first degree at 2:1 or above in a relevant area. Applicants with Masters level qualifications are preferred. We will interview shortlisted applicants.
