Project Description

Stem cells hold great potential for the creation of artifical insulin-producing beta cells to treat diabetes. Matrix and matricellular components play a critical role in supporting the differentiation of stem cells into mature, functional beta cells. This project will build on current research in the lab using decellularised pancreas as a scaffold for stem cell differentiation. The project will involve the analysis of specific matrix components within the physiological pancreas matrix and their role in beta cell differentiation.
