About the Project

The functionality of contemporary and future nanotechnological devices is governed by structure, composition and electrical properties at the atomic scale. By using our state-of-the-art aberration-corrected TEM, equipped with cameras running at speeds of many thousand frames per second, the candidate acquires and evaluates momentum-resolved 4D data combining real- and diffraction space information at ultimate resolution to decipher atomic structure, atomic charge densities and polarisation-induced electric fields in semiconductor and 2D-materials based heterostructures. A special focus of this project will be the investigation of electrical properties in quantum devices under an external electric field applied in-situ in the microscope. The project is embedded in a multilateral High-Tech agenda of several research institutions in Munich and allows close interdisciplinary scientific interaction.

Requirements: Master Degree in Chemistry or Physics, ability to work proactively within a team of electron micrcospists, education in optics, solid state chemistry/physics or scattering theory beneficial, experience or affinity for programming (e.g. Python, Matlab).
