About the Project

Musculoskeletal models are highly valuable in investigating musculoskeletal diseases, in particular in preventing and slowing the progression of different musculoskeletal conditions, which are the leading cause of pain and disability in England and account for one of the highest causes of sickness absence and productivity loss. In the UK, 10.8 million days are lost as a consequence of musculoskeletal conditions, and 1 in 4 of the adult population (many being young and of working age) are affected which is around 9.6 million adults and 12,000 children. This project aims to create clinically friendly models which can be used with minimal input and experience by healthcare professionals to perform biomechanical analysis. The potential applications ranges from optimisation of rehabilitation programs, athlete training, prosthetic/orthosis design and control to disease characterisation, surgical pre-planning and interventions assessment
