About the Project

Applications are sought for a fully-funded Research Studentship (PhD) to carry out research at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, United Kingdom, under the supervision of Dr Yang Jiang and her team.

Duration and Funding
The duration of project will be up to 36 months, commencing in February 2020. The studentship covers both tuition fees (at Home/EU or International level) and a tax-free stipend of £15,000 per annum.

Proposed Research
The proposed research is aimed at designing and developing a multidisciplinary framework for supporting decision-making, communication, public engagement and tourism by Computer Graphics and Human Computer Interactive (HCI) Technologies, as well as bridging the gaps that exists across multiple disciplines related to the project.

The work would involve developing computational methods and algorithms to visualize and analysis 3D data, exploring state-of-the-art digital technologies of 3D scanning by Drone Deployment, and using Immersive Technologies to record, process and present digital data of the sustainable preservation of Cultural Heritage. The detailed project plan will be finalized once the project started. The designed and developed HCI framework would become a platform for gaining and sharing knowledge of relevant users.

This project will be focused mainly on:
• 3D visualizations, user-centred design and gamifications;
• research methodologies on immersive user interactions;
• WebVR design and development of AR mobile applications.

Key Skills
Applicants should have a very good BSc (Honours) (First or Upper Second class) degree or a Master degree (with Distinction or Merit) in Computing Science or related discipline.

Essential Knowledge and Experience:
• Computer programming skills for graphics & web
• Familiarity with HCI techniques
• Familiarity with the concepts of user-centred design
• Knowledge of 3D Graphics at undergraduate level;
• Web programming skills (HTML, PHP, Javascript, WebVR library, etc.)

Desirable requirements
• Programming skills in C++, Unity (or Unreal engine) and C# for Unity (or C++ for Unreal);
• Android System Development;
• Experience in user-centred design
• Research skills
