About the Project

Part of the multimillion eHealth Hub for Cancer Centre of Excellence led by University of Limerick and Queen’s University Belfast, this PhD studentship contributes to developing open source frameworks to enable federated sharing of all-island clinical and genomics cancer data. Cancer is the leading cause of death on the island of Ireland, and half of all citizens on the island of Ireland will experience cancer at some stage in their lifetime. There are substantial existing data and physical resources available in blood cancers, including well established Biobanks both sides of the border. Therefore, blood cancers are an attractive starting point and will be used to develop driver projects building upon existing resources for example the OHDSI Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership Common Data Model. Integrated data resources, including molecular data from clinical trials, will illuminate key clinical questions in Multiple Myeloma (MM) and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL); specifically around treatment resistance and immune dysfunction.

This studentship is part of the North-South eHealth Hub for Cancer and will be primarily based in the Overton group at Queen’s University Belfast. Funding is in place to support mobility for additional training at the University of Limerick and the Royal College of Surgeon’s Ireland.
