Control and Signal Processing for Biomechatronics
(Important Note: this PhD project is not funded – applicants will need to have acquired their own source of funding to pursue this opportunity.)
This PhD project is offered in Biomechatronics, which is an area of research that seeks to replace lost human function, or augment human function, by the use of mechatronic devices. Successful technology examples in this domain include bionic limbs, exoskeletons, cochlear implants and pacemakers. This PhD will focus on control and signal processing for biomechatronics, but could also incorporate electromechanical design depending on the skills/interest of the applicant.
Prospective applicants can be from different backgrounds with a good degree in engineering, mathematics or other sciences. This project will involve programming and potentially some hardware development. Experience of these areas is therefore desirable, but much of this can be learnt during the PhD, so of more importance is the desire to learn and overcome challenges.
