Convergent Beam Low Energy Electron Diffraction (physics)
This project will utilise the new Cardiff £1M low energy electron microscopy (LEEM) facility to develop surface convergent beam low energy electron diffraction (CBLEED) technique and probe the nanoscale structure of surfaces. This will provide a new means of obtaining surface space group symmetry and the atomic coordinates of surface reconstructions. Low energy electrons are strongly scattered by the surface potential and we will apply a number of modeling approaches to simulate and interpret experimental CBLEED patterns in order to extract nanostructural information.
This project is available to students applying for funded PhD studentships and may be altered or amended.
Studentships will be awarded to successful applicants from all applications received. Applicants must satisfy RCUK residency rules for the full studentship.
