The Institute of Musculoskeletal Medicine (IMM), Department of Molecular Medicine is offering as soon as possible a position limited to 3 years as a PhD Student. We are seeking a highly motivated PhD Student to join the Cartilage biology research group to work on the project titled “CXCR2-mediated cell-matrix interactions in cartilage repair and osteoarthritis“.
Our overarching goal is to understand the basic mechanisms underlying the development of osteoarthritis and the onset of articular cartilage breakdown. Specifically, this project will focus on the role of CXCR2 chemokine signalling in the modulation of chondrocyte-extracellular matrix interactions during skeletal development, cartilage injury repair and in osteoarthritis.
The PhD project will involve a wide range of experimental molecular (RT-PCR, RNAseq) and cell biological and immunological techniques (primary cell culture, immunocytochemistry, FACS, Western blot, microscopy) and research involving handling and analysis of murine transgenic models.
We are seeking an ambitious, highly qualified and motivated student with a strong interest in academic biomedical research. We expect the successful candidate to hold a Master’s degree in biology, biochemistry or life sciences, to demonstrate prior knowledge and experience of key molecular and cell biological techniques and be comfortable working with experimental animals. The ability to contribute effectively to group projects and to work independently, as well as an excellent command of IT and of the English language are essential prerequisites.
