About the Project

Dam failures can be estimated by structural reliabily analysis given local environmental conditions and history (if available). Such analysis can be used to identify dams at risk and derive fragility curves for multiple natural and man-made hazards.

The project intends to carry out comprehensive reliability analysis on two case study dams. Advanced simulations approaches including finite element modelling and boundary-element modelling will be carried out based on site-specific field data and laboratory test results. The analyses will support the development of and provide validation of a more tractable, reduced-order (simplified yet reliable) model that can interpret local data collected in Brazil.

Communication of results to both technical and non-technical audiences is especially important.
