• This project is based at Lancaster University, so you will gain your PhD from a Top Ten University, recognised as The Times and Sunday Times University of the Year 2018 and International University of the Year 2020. You will also work alongside colleagues at partner institutions across the North West.

Based in Halton, Lancaster, Cleverstein is a footwear design company which focuses on convertible circular footwear solutions. Launched with a modular recyclable ballet flat, they are now expanding their range of products and services. They also offer a tech-driven B2B and B2C repair and recycling service to shoe designers and retailers.

The focus of this project is to undertake research and development to design and inform a market-led approach to the commercialisation of a full circularity service for the footwear industry.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of a 2:1 at undergraduate level in a Marketing related undergraduate degree, and/or a relevant Marketing Masters degree (U.K. equivalent of 65% minimum in both taught and dissertation). A strong interest and experience in circular sustainable solutions would be of benefit.

This PhD will be supervised by Dr Alison Stowell, Senior lecturer in Organisational Work and Technology, Dr Alan Gilchrist and Dr James Cronin – Senior lecturers in Marketing and Tanya Mulesa from Cleverstein Ltd.
