About the Project

This is an exciting opportunity to join the research team at FASTBLADE (https://www.fastblade.eng.ed.ac.uk/). This is the world’s first test facility that uses regenerative hydraulic technology to offer high-quality, low-cost fatigue testing of tidal turbine blades and other composites structures for research and product development.

This PhD or EngD is part of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Wind and Marine Energy Systems and Structures (CDT WAMSS), which is jointly led by the Universities of Strathclyde, Edinburgh and Oxford. In the first year of study, you will attend several courses in wind and marine energy equivalent to a master-degree. This training will give you a broad background which will complement the in-depth research phase of the PhD/EngD.

Thereafter there is an opportunity to develop a research topic in the design and testing of tidal turbine blades.
