About the Project

The PhD will investigate the performativity of the Metaverse, which includes the digital built environment, the digital body in space, and the latest technologies involved. It will explore how the development of a shared, digital space has transformed the way that live performances are designed, and then performed by individuals (avatars) in this new social, digital space.

Through its multidisciplinary approach encompassing art, design and psychology, the project welcomes candidates from different disciplines, addressing the need of a rigorous multidisciplinary research for the development of the Metaverse and its performative aspects, including, but not limited to, the gaming experience. Covering both the practice and theories of design for performance, the project will provide an environment for research and development of the screen industry, while applying new creative digital technologies to live performance. It will also create opportunities for the integration of theatre, gaming, film, television, and psychology, through hybrid collaborative artistic research methods, in both real and virtual worlds.
