Applications are invited for our EPSRC funded Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) PhD studentship for the project “Design of Experiments for Network Science” starting 1 April 2022. Successful applicants will receive an annual stipend (bursary) of £17,609 including inner London weighting, plus payment of their full-time tuition fees for a period of 36-months (3 years).
Applicants must be classified as home (UK) tuition fee paying student to be eligible for this studentship.
The Project
This exciting research project is focused on developing new statistical and computational methods to perform experiments on networks, combining the areas of Design of Experiments and the rapidly-developing field of Network Science. Particularly, the PhD will consider designing or modifying algorithms to find optimal designs for networked data, adapting inference techniques to networked data, and performing Bayesian Experimental Design on connected data.

Skills and Experience
Applicants will be required to demonstrate their ability to understand current statistical theory and methods used in experimental design, and adapt these to experimental data on a network. This may involve developing new algorithms and techniques using the R statistical programming language. Experience or interest in any of the following areas would be an advantage: Statistical Inference, Design of Experiments, Network Science, Computer Science (Algorithms), or Operational Research.
You should be highly motivated, able to work independently as well as in a team and demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
Academic Entry Criteria
You will have or be expected to receive a 1st class or 2:1 honours degree in Mathematics, Statistics or a similar discipline. A postgraduate masters degree is not required but may be an advantage.
