About the Project
Lightweight structural designs with reduced construction materials and embodied carbon can be achieved with the design of new more sustainable construction materials. Elastic metamaterials extend traditional limits on physical and mechanical behaviour by tailoring the geometry and arrangement of constituents. Recent designs of the metamaterials reveal the ability to stop the vibration at a design frequency and prevent vibration waves from propagating. Ideally, this and other functionalities are governed mainly by the geometry of building blocks (the metamaterial architecture).
We are seeking a talented student with strong analytical skills and experience in programming. An understanding of the finite element method would also be beneficial. The successful candidate will have the chance to conduct innovative research with leading researchers in the UK and internationally.
