About This PhD Project

Project Description

Location: Riddet Institute and Massey Institute of Food Science and Technology, Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand

Chief Supervisor: Dr Jaspreet Singh

Duration: 3 years

Remuneration: $27,000 (NZD) per annum (tax exempt) + student fees

The Opportunity

A funded PhD position is available at the Riddet Institute- a Centre of Research Excellence hosted by Massey University. The project focuses on the creation of new Biomimetic Plant Foods (BPFs) with slow release characteristics and efficient bioavailability of nutrients. Biomimetic foods and technologies address some of the major challenges observed during gastro-intestinal digestion and nutrient bioavailability after the consumption of processed foods with an ultimate goal for the improvement of health and well-being.

Candidate Requirements

The suitable candidate will have:
• Bachelor’s degree with suitable honours or a Master’s degree in Food science and technology /Food Chemistry and/Food Engineering or related fields.
• Some experience in undertaking research in the above mentioned areas (including literature searches, laboratory work, analysing data, and writing publications for peer reviewed journals) is preferred.
• Some experience in laboratory work is preferred
• Strong academic record
• Ability to conduct research within an interdisciplinary team environment
• Strong initiative, interest and enthusiasm
• Good time management and organisational skills
• Sound communication skills

This project is available for an immediate start. Applications close on 15th Feb 2016, and the PhD student should be enrolled at Massey University by 31st March 2016.
