Project Description

Synthetic catalysts are being developed that can convert carbon dioxide into useful chemicals. However, the catalysts’ function depends critically on attachment to solid semi-conductor surfaces. Here we aim to prepare surfaces with optimised properties to enable these photocatalysts to function efficiently. The student will be trained in a variety of methods to prepare and characterise solid and colloidal surfaces, collaborate with Chemists to make and attach catalysts, and then test the surface bound catalysts performance. This studentship provides an exciting opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team working to address important environmental challenges.

Funding Notes

This is an interdisciplinary project spanning Chemistry, Physics and Engineering. The suitable candidate will have a 2.1 standard degree or equivalent qualification in these disciplines or related physical science subjects.

If English is not your first language, then you must have International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) average of 6.5 or above with at least 6.0 in each component.
