Developing a novel & comprehensive MR scanning technique
Applications are invited for this 3 year Studentship based in the Cardiovascular Imaging Group of the UCL Institute of Cardiovascular Science. The Studentship is funded by Heart Research UK (HRUK) and involve conducting research in Magnetic Resonance Physics as set out below.
Studentship Description Imaging plays a vital part in the on-going management of children with congenital heart disease (CHD). Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) has revolutionized imaging in CHD. However, CMR is limited by long scans, the need for expert planning and high cost. At the UCL/Great Ormond Street Hospital we are at the forefront of developing new rapid CMR technologies for use in children. In this project, we plan to develop a novel comprehensive scanning techniques that build on our experience in MR physics, computer science, mathematics and clinical CMR. This HRUK funded project will concentrate on novel MR acquisition (spiral imaging) and reconstruction (compressed sensing, GPU based computing). The successful PhD student will be expected to develop new methodologies under the supervision of clinical, engineering and computer science supervisors.
During their PhD thesis research, students will be strongly encouraged to present their work at international meetings, and funds will be made available specifically for this purpose. PhD projects will cover the entire range of activity across the UCL campus, and applicants are therefore advised to familiarise themselves with our research.
Person Specification Applicants should hold, or expect to receive, a relevant first degree from a good university at 1st or 2:1 level. Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience preferred.
Eligibility Tuition fees will also be funded at the home (UK/EU) rate set by UCL.
Non UK/EU applicants will need to show evidence of their ability to cover the difference between overseas and home fees for the duration of study (£17,410 per year in 2016/17) and will also need to satisfy UKBA visa requirements.

Stipend: £16,000 per annum
