When light interacts with the environment, one or more of its properties change. These properties include: amplitude, phase, wavelength and polarization. It has been well-established that optical sensors can provide unique capabilities for sensitive and inexpensive probing of environmental conditions. Therefore, many commercial, industrial, and medical applications benefit from this field.
In this project, we are developing a new technology for highly sensitive and robust optical sensing of the environment. The technology is a unique synergy of: 1) advanced plasmonic interactions in specially designed materials, 2) RF photonic processing, 3) improved optical interferometry and 4) deep learning neural networks for data processing.
This is one project, which combines into one sensor all of the above advanced concepts in optical physics and engineering
The fundamental goal of this project is to explore how to design the optimum optical sensor that pushes the limits of 1) light interaction with the environment and 2) data processing.
