About the Project

A 3-year PhD position is available to work with professor Ivan Parkin at University College London to work on Anti-microbial coatings on Glass. The studentship will start on 23 September 2019. The studentship will cover tuition fees at UK/EU rate plus a tax free maintenance stipend for 3 years.

The project is co-sponsored by NSG (Pilkington Glass). The work will involve making new transparent coatings on glass by sol-gel, CVD and spray methods. The coatings will be evaluated by XRD, Raman, XPS and SEM/EDX analysis. Functional testing will involve antimicrobial studies.

Funding Notes

Applicants should have or expect to achieve 1st or 2:1 class Integrated Masters degree (MSci, MChem, etc.) or a merit in a taught MSc as well as meeting UCL minimum entrance requirements. Due to funding restrictions, the position is only open to UK nationals.
