Project Description

This is part of a larger project to develop a patent pending micro gas turbine engine as a range extender for electric vehicles. The new engine can cut emissions by 80% and fuel consumption by more than 50% when compared with piston engines. The combustion chamber to be developed is an important component of the engine. We are looking for an experienced student to study in the area and develop a combustion chamber to suit the engine.
The student is expected to have mechanical engineering background and good knowledge in thermodynamic and CFD, preferably gained from projects. Experience in design of combustion chambers and use of relevant software for the design are advantageous. Applicants are expected to have a first class degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering to get a scholarship. Students with MSc in combustion chamber related area are highly encouraged to apply. Self funded applicants are expected to have a 2.1 degree or equivalent.

Funding Notes

For an EU student, the scholarship covers tuition fees and a stipend of up to £15000 per annum for three years. For a non-EU student, the scholarship covers complete tuition fees, including the overseas part, for three year. We support CSC Scholarship applications by waving tuition fees.
