This PhD project is designed for a highly motivated and innovative early career researcher with a strong background in both experimental and theoretical photonics and quantum optics. The aim is to develop a hybrid microcomb source that integrates both classical and quantum states within a single system. This approach uses recent advancements in topological protection and nonlinear optical effects to generate ultrastable combs for classical communication while simultaneously producing quantum-correlated photon pairs for secure communication channels.
The project focuses on developing a theoretical and experimental framework for microcomb sources and the dual functionality of classical and quantum channels. This includes developing an experimental setup based on microcavities, to create classical solitons while simultaneously generating quantum photon pairs. The work will leverage existing expertise and infrastructure at the Emergent Photonics Research Centre (EPicX).
You will be part of Prof Alessia Pasquazi's dynamic team, contributing to novel science and producing leading-author publications in peer-reviewed journals. Presentations at selected international conferences will also be a key aspect of your role.

Entry requirements:
Applicants should have, or expect to achieve, at least a 2:1 Honours degree (or equivalent). We welcome applications from exceptional students with STEM backgrounds (physics, engineering, applied mathematics, advanced mechanics) intersecting with photonics.

Funding information:
The studentship is for 3 years full-time equivalent and provides a tax-free stipend of £19,237 per annum for the duration of the studentship plus university tuition fees.
