About the Project

Applications are invited from talented and ambitious candidates to develop a series of projects investigating the mechanisms underlying myopia development and progression. This project will use a novel human model of future myopic eye growth to test the impact of innovative optical and luminance interventions as well as to compare existing treatments for myopia management, to develop prediction algorithms for myopic growth. The aim being to allow individualised optimal management of myopia and a better understanding of the mechanism driving eye growth.

You will use OCT and ocular biometry measurements to objectively assess the impact of changing visual environment on ocular parameters in young adults/adolescents with myopia. Data analyses will involve some basic programming, but experience of programming is not required for the post.

Financial Support:

The studentship is open to UK students and comprises of a tax-free stipend at the 2021/22 UKRI rate of £15,609 per annum and a fee bursary to cover payment of Home tuition fees. The studentship is available for three years, subject to satisfactory progress review at the end of the first year, with an expected registration of 1 October 2021.

Application Requirements:

·      UK national

·      Bachelor (Hons.) Degree of either 1st Class/ 2.1, MSc/MRes with a 60% or higher weighted average (or equivalent) in Optometry.

·      Clinical qualifications in Optometry are desirable.

·      Registration with the General Optical Council (GOC) is desirable.

·      Interest in research, and strong interpersonal and teamwork skills are essential.
