Development of single molecule sequencing in undiagnosed patients after whole-exome sequencing

The PhD program in Molecular Life Sciences is a research doctorate of the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli that is run with the collaboration of the Italian National Research Council (CNR). With a faculty including top-level scientists, the program offers research and education opportunities to talented young fellows who have already obtained their Master’s or equivalent degree and want to establish themselves as future leaders in modern biological research. The program is multidisciplinary and is based on a well-balanced combination of research activity with access to the most modern technological platforms, theoretical courses, internal seminars and participation to national and international conferences. The official language of the Doctorate program is English. Research and training activities will take place in the Department of Environmental, Biological and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technologies of the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli, via Vivaldi, Caserta, and in the CNR Institutes of Napoli. The students will spend part of their doctorate (at least 3 months) in research groups abroad.

Eligibility Criteria
- Academic degree: Applicants shall have a master degree or equivalent corresponding to the second level of studies.
- Mobility rule: There will be no nationality restrictions. Applicants can be from any Country. However, they should have received their degree from a University located outside of Italy.

Evaluation Criteria:
- Curriculum assessment concerns:
a) the degree thesis (the degree pertinence with the Ph.D. scientific topics, the degree final grades);
b) knowledge of Foreign languages and other skills opportunely certified;
c) research and study stages in Italy and abroad;
d) scholarships;
e) post graduate qualifications;
f) other documents if relevant for a full assessment (for example publications, conference abstracts, reference letters written by Professors of the foreign University where candidates are enrolled).
- Oral examinations topics concern your previous research experience and the project specific to the position offered. The interview can be in videoconference via Skype if requested.
Student Grant
The winner of the position will receive an annual grant of 15,343.28 euro which will be prepaid every month. The amount of the scholarship will be increased by 50% for research visits outside of Italy. From the second year each student, besides to the grant, he/she will receive a budget for the research activities in Italy and abroad for an amount not less than 10% of the grant itself. Candidates not residing in the Campania Region can also request an extra one-time contribution of max 5,000 euro.
