Hot rolled abrasive wear resistant steel products are typically used in harsh abrasive environments, such as in lifting and excavating applications. Tata Steel Europe (TSE) is now expanding its Engineering Products portfolio of high strength steels with introduction of the ultra - high strength abrasion resistant (AR) to meet customer demands. However, fundamental understanding is still lacking on the effects of different carbon levels and microalloying elements (such as Cr, Mo, Nb and V) together with the condition of austenite, different cooling rates between Ms to Mf on the strip hardenability, final steel microstructures through strip thickness and mechanical properties. This project will investigate these phenomenon giving the candidate the opportunity to combine scientific study with industrial application.
ELIGIBILITY AND QUALIFICATIONS
We are actively seeking an enthusiastic individual to join the team at WMG, Warwick with the following entry requirements and expectations:
A 1st or 2.1 undergraduate (BEng, MEng) and/or postgraduate masters’ qualification (MSc) in a science and technology field: Metallurgy, Materials Science, Engineering, Physics or Chemistry
Due to funding regulations this project is open to UK/EU students only. This position provides and attractive tax free stipend of £14,777 plus £3000 industrial top up per annum for 3 years plus. To be eligible for this project the successful applicant should have indefinite leave to remain in the UK and have been ordinarily resident here for 3 years prior to the project start-date, apart from occasional or temporary absences.
