Drug metabolism - prediction, detection, and isolation

   School of Pharmacy

Applications accepted all year round  Self-Funded PhD Students Only

About the Project

Electrosynthesis (ES) is a green methodology for preparing and interpreting drug metabolites linked to toxicology.

ES describes the synthesis of chemical compounds in an electrochemical cell. Compared to a conventional chemical reaction, ES operates under green conditions (the electron is the reagent).

Understanding which circulating drug metabolites are formed in the body is a crucial stage in the development of new medicines and gives insight into any potential toxic pathologies resulting from the metabolites formed. Current methods to prepare drug metabolites directly from the drug molecule often involve time-consuming multistep syntheses.

In this study you will apply green ES to predict which drug metabolites form in the body and enable their efficient synthesis.
