About the Project

The project involves exploring community experiences of changing water practices in Malawi. The prospective researcher will explore the environmental and people factors that are causing strain on communities, uncover the adaptive capacities of communities in the face of unreliable access to water, and determine how communities could be supported to increase capacity to deal with climate change. Fieldwork in Malawi would likely draw on ethnographic methods to explore these problems in relation to community and individual wellbeing (as defined locally) under the frameworks of climate justice and social justice. Furthermore, this research would include exploring existing policies and strategies employed in Malawi to deal with changing access to water with a focus on communities’ role in the process.
