Elucidation of novel therapy targets for B-cell malignancies

  • Full or part time
  • Application Deadline
    Thursday, February 20, 2020
  • Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)
    Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)

Project Description

Therapy of B-cell lymphomas and B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia is based predominantly on CD20 monoclonal antibodies and/or on three approved targeted drugs. However, their success rate is often hampered by the development of resistance, resulting in therapy failure and disease relapses. It is therefore essential to identify novel vulnerabilities of malignant B cells that might be exploited as novel targets of therapy. This goal will be the aim of this PhD thesis. Successful candidate will learn diverse modern techniques of molecular and cell biology like cell culture, lentiviral transduction, molecular cloning, CRISPR/Cas9 or next-generation sequencing. The candidate will make use of the CRISPR/Cas9 technology to generate individual knockout cells or to perform a genome-wide knockout screen. He/she will investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying the effect of candidate vulnerability genes. The candidate will use sets of specific small molecule inhibitors and collection of mouse models to elucidate the translational potential of novel prospective targets.

Keywords: B-cell malignancies; targeted therapy; CRISPR/Cas9; resistance mechanisms

HOW TO APPLY: Register for this call using the registration form at http://ls-phd.ceitec.cz/http-ls-phd-ceitec-cz/ and submit required documents to receive support with the preparation of the application and all formalities. Your application package will be forwarded to the supervisor for preliminary revision.
Applicants who wish to pursue a degree at the CEITEC PhD program must hold the equivalent of a Master’s degree (MSc) in similar field (four- or five-year undergraduate degree). The application can be submitted before obtaining the Master’s degree, however, the applicant should obtain the degree within five months after the application deadline.
