About the Project

Water quality is a growing public concern worldwide, and a major source of water pollution is nitrate leached from agricultural soils. This project aims to understand and evolve denitrifying microbial communities in soil and develop bacterial biosensors for monitoring nitrate contamination in a biologically relevant manner.

We seek applications for a PhD scholarship at the School of Natural and Computational Sciences, Massey University (Auckland, New Zealand). The PhD candidate will be working in an interdisciplinary and international team under the supervision of world-renowned scientists in the fields of environmental microbiology, bioinformatics, bacterial genetic and soil chemistry. The candidate must have a master’s degree in microbiology and meet the entry requirements for studying at Massey University.

The scholarship includes a stipend of NZ$ 27,500 per annum for a maximum period of three years plus university fees.
