About the Project

Animals may be exposed to a wide range of environmental stimuli over the course of their development, some of which may be harmful, such as pollutants, and these may subsequently affect their behaviour and/or physiology and that of their offspring. In zebrafish, exposure of males or females to stressors affects the ability of their offspring to respond to stress, but the mechanism, which is potentially epigenetic, is unknown.

This project will investigate the mechanism by which the stress response is affected in the offspring of fish that have been exposed to stressors. The student will develop skills in experimental design, behavioural analysis, molecular genetics and statistics.

Funding Notes

Applicants will need to obtain funding to cover tuition fees and living expenses.

The applicant should have, or expect to gain at least an upper second class degree, or equivalent overseas qualification, in a relevant subject.
