Project Description

PhD project
The computer simulation of flood phenomena, and the influence of rain patterns, including climate change induced variability, play a crucial role in the economy. The risk-assessment can help save lives and alleviate costs to citizens, businesses and governments. The complexity of flood phenomena requires simulations and statistical solutions for accurate estimation of flood risk.

The project is in collaboration with Ambiental Technical Solutions Ltd, a business specialised in flood-risk assessment providing insight to real-life situations for customers.

Timetable
Interviews will be conducted as soon as possible after receiving applications.
The PhD will start 23 September 2019.

The first bursary payment will be made 01 October 2019.

Funding Notes

Amount
£15009 per annum tax-free bursary for 3.5 years with fees waived and an additional income provided by the partner institution.

Eligibility
A BSc or MSc degree at a high final grade in Mathematics, Computing, Physics or Engineering. A strong background in two of:- partial differential equations, mathematical or computational fluid dynamics, numerical methods & analysis, random processes, machine learning, scientific programming.

Applicants must be a UK national, or EU national with at least 3 years residency in the UK. Please note this award is not open to students outside the UK or EU. This is a funder requirement.
